The map below indicates where the formal campgrounds are within the Spanish Peaks - Trinchera Peak section of San Isabel National Forest. As with most National Forests, there are primitive camping sites scattered around also. The Spanish Peaks Wilderness Area allows travel by foot and horseback only so you might guess there are also primitive campsites available in that area (mind you, that Wilderness Area is probably 90% bare rock at a steep incline). The Forest Service recently made an adjustment to the “rules of use by groups” that limit the number of folks allowed in one group on the mountains, and where and how they can camp if they should do so. Before coming with a crowd you might want to check with the San Isabel National Forest Work Office in either La Veta or Canon City for details.
