Richey, Montana

Welcome to Richey, Montana
Welcome to Richey

Richey is located in the very north end of Dawson County on State Road 200. The countryside is a mix of rolling hills with some badlands thrown in: excellent for the large-scale growing of wheat and other grains. Land that isn't planted in crops is most likely enrolled in some state or federal conservation reserve program to provide feed and cover for wildlife. Wildlife in the area includes pronghorn antelope, white-tail deer, mule deer, wild turkey, ring-neck pheasant, skunk, bobcat and a few elk. There's also a lot of beef cattle, hogs, sheep and bison on the land. If it wasn't for the grain elevators, though, Richey might not exist any more. In this part of Montana there's a shortage of school-age children so many school districts are consolidating and bussing children further and further to regional schools.
