The area of the Bridger Valley Historic Byway is also one of those areas in Wyoming where the main routes of the Oregon, California and Mormon Pioneer Trails overlapped. In later times, this was also along the main route of the Transcontinental Railroad, the Lincoln Highway (first transcontinental auto route) and even the Pony Express. But when Interstate 80 was built, it bypassed these towns that grew up along the historic route. Today, the designated Bridger Valley Historic Byway ties together several towns that still have many of the original sites from the good, old days... and Fort Bridger is now a rebuilt Wyoming State Historic Site where mountain men congregate every year to celebrate how things used to be.
