Aspen Ridge Take CR 175 (Ute Trail) north from Salida for 5 miles. Then go left on CR 185 for 5 more miles. There is access from CR 185 at the north and south ends of Aspen Ridge. Timber activity may be present. Chubb Park On US 285, go 20 miles south of Fairplay to junction with US 24. Go one more mile to top of Trout Creek Pass and turn right (west) on CR 311. Go another mile. Timber activity may be present. Droney Gulch From Poncha Springs, take US 285 north 5 miles to CR 251. The property is on the west side of US 285. Access is from the highway monument at the parking area on the west side of the road. Little Cochetopa Creek Take US 50 west from Poncha Springs for 2.5 miles, at CR 210 turn and go south for 4.5 miles. Timber activity may be present. Maxwell Park From stop light in Buena Vista, go 1 mile west on CR 306 to CR 321, turn and go south on CR 321 for 5 miles to CR 327. Go west on CR 327 for 1 mile to parking area. Or, take CR 306 west for 3 miles to CR 339. Poncha Pass Go 1/2 mile south of Poncha Springs on US 285 to northeast corner of the property. Sand Creek 1/4 mile south of the junction of Highways 291 and 285. Property is west of US 285, about 6.5 miles north of Poncha Springs. Tiger Lily Creek Go north from Buena Vista on US 24 for 12 miles. Property is east of US 24. |
State Wildife Areas |
Arkansas River/Salida Go 4 miles north from Poncha Springs on US 285, then go east 1/8 mile on CR 165. Parking at west end. Or, go northwest out of Salida on Highway 291 for 3.5 miles. Then turn and go 3/4 mile south on CR 150 to CR 166, then turn southwest on CR 166 and go to the bank of the Arkansas River. Parking is on the east side of the road. Big Bend Access from Mt. Shavano Fish Hatchery northwest on CR's 160, 163 and 166. Also from 4 miles north of Poncha Springs on US 285, then 1/8 mile east on CR 165. Clear Creek Reservoir Go 13 miles north of Buena Vista on US 24 to CR 130, then go 1/2 mile west. Franz Lake Go 3/4 miles west of Salida on Highway 291 to CR 154, then 3/4 miles west on CR 154. Granite Go 17 miles north of Buena Vista on US 24. Access from Chaffee-Lake County line downstream to 1/4 mile below Granite Bridge. Harmon RESTRICTIONS: No dogs, camping, fires, hunting, firearms allowed. _____________________________________________Heckendorf Go 5 miles north of Buena Vista on US 24, then go 1 mile west on CR 361. Johnson Village From US 24 bridge over Arkansas River: west side of river for 1/4 mile upstream and 1/2 mile downstream. Love Meadow RESTRICTIONS: Habitat stamp not required to enter information kiosk. _____________________________________________Sands Lake Go 1/2 mile northwest of Salida on Highway 291. Property is east of highway, opposite Mt. Shavano Fish Hatchery. |

Chalk Cliffs Go 2.5 miles west of Nathrop on CR 162, then 1/8 mile north on CR 287. Mount Ouray Go 1/2 mile northwest of Salida on Highway 291, then turn and go west for 1/2 mile on CR 154, then turn and go 1.25 miles northwest on CR 160. Mount Shavano Go 1/2 mile northwest of Salida on Highway 291 to CR 154, then go 1/2 mile west on CR 154. |
