Logan County is in northeastern Colorado with Nebraska to the north. Named for General John A. Logan, Logan County contains 1,839 square miles of land and 6 square miles of water. The county seat is Sterling.
The first settlers in Logan County came in via the Overland Trail (a branch of the Oregon Trail used 1862-1868). Most had gone on to places like the Union Colony (now Greeley) but found the best agricultural land there already taken, so they backtracked a bit up the South Platte River...
