Bald Mountain Ski Area |
Bald Mountain Ski Area is kind of a throwback to the old days: 1 rope tow, 1 T-bar. It was built by Potlatch Corporation for company employees back in 1959. When Potlatch scaled operations back in the 1970's, the ski area was leased to the Clearwater Ski Club. Bald Mountain is only open on weekends but the rates are right: $20 per full day in 2010-2011 season. Bald Mountain Ski Area does have a Day Lodge with Café and a rental shop offering skiing and snowboarding equipment. In season, the Clearwater Ski Club also runs a free shuttle from Orofino, Weippe and Pierce to the ski lodge. To get there: Bald Mountain is 28 miles northeast of Orofino on the Grangemont Road. Or you can go to Greer and take the Gold Rush Historic Byway (State Highway 11) through Pierce. The ski area is 10 miles north of Pierce on Highway 11. |
