Gardnerville is a census-designated place in the valley between the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Pine Nut Range in western Nevada. The first building in Gardnerville was actually an existing house that a fellow moved to a site in Gardnerville from its original location in Genoa. That was Lawrence Gilman who'd bought a 7-acre parcel from a homesteader on the East Fork of the Carson River. From that humble beginning, the settlement proceeded slowly until today, Gardnerville seems to draw folks to walk its brick sidewalks below 100-year-old brick buildings and check out the shops, saloons and restaurants. This was/is primarily an agricultural area and the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center has some nice exhibits and a great bookstore. Gardnerville is adjacent to the southeast side of Minden. |
