Douglas County, Nevada |
Douglas County is in west central Nevada with California to the west and Carson City to the north. Douglas County is named for the Steven A. Douglas, made famous by his debates with Abraham Lincoln during the 1860 Presidential campaign. The county has a total of 710 square miles of land and 28 square miles of water. The first settlement in Nevada, Genoa, was originally settled in 1851 by Mormon pioneers/traders who sold goods to settlers passing through on their way to California. The county seat is Minden. |
