Laketown, Utah
Looking north across Laketown
Laketown was settled in 1864 by a small group of Mormon pioneers. I don't know that they originally settled here at the southern end of Bear Lake specifically to build the Laketown Canal but eventually, that feat was accomplished, turning the countryside south of Laketown into decent farming acreage.
Rendezvous Beach (a unit of Bear Lake State Park) is directly north of Laketown against the shore of Bear Lake. Rendezvous Beach was the site of a couple big mountain man rendezvous back in 1827 and 1828, events still commemorated annually. Laketown is also the southern terminus of the Bear Lake Scenic Byway.
