Randolph was settled in 1870 by a group of Mormon pioneers led by Randolph H. Stewart. They came to homestead the area to prevent non-Mormons from gaining a foothold in the area. They built the first tabernacle in Randolph out of logs. The brick version of Randolph Tabernacle was built around the turn of the century. Randolph was founded as a farming/ranching community and that's still the biggest business in this neighborhood. Randolph is the county seat of Rich County.

A town was founded in 1875 at nearby Argyle (about 3 miles to the southwest) but the climate made life too hard there and most folks abandoned the site and moved into Randolph around 1915. The ruins of the town are still in place, just they're on private property...
