Alpine, Wyoming

Alpine is located at the point where the Snake River meets Palisades Reservoir at the southern end of the spectacular Snake River Canyon. This is also where the Grey's and Salt Rivers flow into Palisades Reservoir.

Alpine is located on one of the main routes leading to Grand Teton National Park and to Yellowstone National Park, and sees a huge increase in visitors every summer. Because of the cost of living in Jackson (the next town to the north), Alpine has become a bedroom community where the folks who actually work in Jackson can afford to live.

Many years ago I drove through this area, headed west from Jackson after passing through Yellowstone and Grand Teton. The scenery was absolutely exquisite but I don't remember there being much of a town... perhaps my eyes were dazzled by all the surrounding beauty. Perhaps I never entered Alpine proper and simply missed by staying on US Highway 26...
