Lory State Park
Adjacent to Horsetooth Reservoir, Lory State Park offers 26 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails through some incredible foothill scenery just minutes from Fort Collins. The eastern trails at Lory State Park give access to some of the bays and coves at Horsetooth Reservoir. For rafters, kayakers and canoeists, it's only a short carry from the parking lot at North Eltuck Bay. Power boaters have to launch from the boat ramp at Horsetooth Reservoir, 2 miles to the south.
While there's no developed campground facility at Lory State Park, backcountry camping is allowed. Possession of a valid vehicle pass for Lory State Park also gives you foot, horseback or bike access to the neighboring Horsetooth Mountain Open Space trail system operated by Larimer County Parks and Open Lands (but a Larimer County Permit does not allow vehicle access to Lory State Park). Lory State Park also has a group picnic area and a conference room in the Visitor Center.
The vehicle day use pass for Lory State Park will run you $7, although if you enter on foot, bike or horseback the entry fee is only $3. Or you can always buy the annual Colorado State Parks pass for $70. Backcountry camping is an additional $10 per night. The conference room at the visitor center can be rented for $100 per day, and folks attending only the meeting don't have to pay the entry fee. The Group Picnic Area is used for a number of different events and the fees for rental vary accordingly. For that kind of info call 970-493-1623.
