Star, Idaho |
Back in the 1880's, when the first school house was built in what is now Star, the settlers put a big star on the building. As the settlement was directly on the road connecting Boise and Middleton, travelers often used that star to determine east and west (about 1 mile east of that star was a boarding house that offered hot meals in those days). That's how Star got the name. The settlement happened here because M.B. Palmer built an irrigation ditch here to carry water from the Boise River to his agricultural fields. The first Post Office was established in 1890. By 1907, there were about 500 residents in Star, making it the 2nd largest town in the county after Boise. These days, Star still has lots of evidence around about those earlier times as an agricultural center but recently, the area has boomed with the growth of the High Tech industry in this part of Idaho and Star has morphed into a bedroom community for Nampa and Boise. |
