Apache Creek Wilderness

The Apache Creek Wilderness is a small (5,666 acres), remote and relatively rugged wilderness area surrounding Apache Creek in the Chino Ranger District area of Prescott National Forest. This is an area of rolling juniper-and-pinon-covered hills with some great granite outcroppings.

The number of mountain lions in the area indicate the presence of plenty of mule deer and other large mammals. There are also numerous species of birds, including a number of raptors. 3 natural springs in the wilderness feed into a large riparian habitat that supports cottonwoods, willows and walnut trees.

Elevations vary from 5,280' up to 6,970'. The area is within a circle of Forest Service roads but there are no established public access points. You want to hike or camp here: bring a compass and a good map, Prescott National Forest says there are only 2 developed trails (for a total of 5 miles) in the Apache Creek Wilderness (#9903 & #9905).
