Hurricane, Utah
The Pine Valley Mountains rise to the northwest of Hurricane
The story goes that while Erastus Snow was riding in a buggy in the area, a whirlwind blew the top of the buggy off. "Well, that was a Hurricane. We'll name this Hurricane Hill," Snow is reported to have exclaimed.
Population growth in this area took off in the 1970's and Hurricane has now grown to blend into the nearby city of St. George.
