Paradise Valley, Arizona
Paradise Valley surrunds Mummy Mountain
Paradise Valley is an affluent town on the east side of Phoenix. Paradise Valley is located in a long, wide valley (named Paradise Valley, of course) that runs north from the Phoenix Mountains to Cave Creek and Carefree and reaches east to the McDowell Mountains. There are many places and businesses that carry the Paradise Valley name but which are not located within several miles of the town of Paradise Valley. One of Arizona's premier high-end tourist destinations, Paradise Valley is home to 12 resorts.
The photo to the left shows the 10'-tall statue of Barry Goldwater in Goldwater Memorial Park.
The whole town is zoned exclusively for single family residential use, the majority of town requires one house per one-acre lot. No multiple housing units or common walls are allowed. Other land uses are permitted but only when authorized by a Special Use Permit which can be granted only after public hearings before both the Town Council and the Planning Comission. Previous authorized Special Uses include medical clinics, resorts, religious facilities, golf courses, equine stables and private schools.
Paradise Valley collects no property taxes from the residents and is not a full service community: solid waste removal and water service are available from private contractors only.
Today, people like Muhammed Ali, Alice Cooper, Stevie Nicks, Bil Keane, Leslie Nielsen, Sandra Day O'Connor, Dan Quayle and Paolo Soleri make Paradise Valley their home.
