Lund, from the south |
Lund is a small Mormon settlement in the White River Valley south of Ely. The town was named in honor of Anthon H. Lund, an LDS Apostle (at the time the only monogamist in the Quorum of Twelve). Lund was settled in 1898 on land that was given to the LDS Church after so much land had been taken from the church in the aftermath of passage of the Edmunds-Tucker Act (an act of Congress passed specifically to fight the practice of polygamy - one of the principal tenets of the Act led to the seizure of every piece of property owned by the church that was worth $50,000 or more). |
