The casinos of Laughlin, Nevada are right across the Colorado River from Bullhead City, Arizona
Bullhead City is located on the Colorado River in northwestern Arizona. Laughlin, Nevada is directly across the river and provides a lot of jobs for the folks of Bullhead City.
Originally, the settlement here was named Hardyville after William Harrison Hardy, postmaster, county supervisor and member of the Arizona Territorial Legislature. But the railroad never came here and the town almost died. Then construction began on the Davis Dam and the settlement found new life. The city's name is taken from a prominent rock formation along the Colorado River: Bull's Head Rock. Bull's Head Rock was used as a navigation point for many years by steamboats plying the Colorado River. As the water rose above Davis Dam after the completion of construction, Bull's Head Rock has been almost submerged.
